Photodynamic Therapy for Skin Rejuvenation ALA-PDT is an exciting advance in photorejuvenation. Photodynamic skin rejuvenation involves the application of 5-ALA or MAL, a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with PDT light. This results in significant improvement in precancerous conditions such as Actinic Keratosis (AKs), sun damaged skin, and potentially superficial skin cancers. Additionally it improves wrinkles, pore size, skin texture, pigmentation, sebaceous hyperplasia and potentially prevents the development of skin cancer. Treatment benefits are often more significantly health related than cosmetic related, though cosmetic benefits are amazingly for the low cost of this treatment.

Photodynamic Therapy for Acne Photodynamic Therapy with 5-ALA (ALA-PDT) for acne is the most recent advance in acne therapy. We offer this revolutionary acne skin care treatment.

ALA -Photodynamic acne therapy involves the application of 5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA, a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with PDT light. This results in improvement in moderate to severe cystic acne, inflammatory acne and comedomal acne.

This acne treatment involves three mechanisms of action against acne. First, it inactivates the bacteria that trigger acne.  Second, it exfoliates the skin to unclog pores. Third, and the most exciting mechanism, is that the treatment slows down overactive sebaceous glands in the skin. This is exciting because sebaceous glands are the root cause in the formation of acne so it has a long lasting effect even on severe acne. ALA-PDT acne therapy can even work in patients who have failed isotretinoin (accutane). Oral isotretinoin also targets the sebaceous glands but accutane has fairly toxic side effects. ALA-PDT is a very safe alternative to accutane treatment.

ALL PDT-ALA treatments involve a period of recovery. This will be discussed during the planning fo your treatment.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) 'Vampire facial'

This popular treatment is where the doctor draws your blood, then centrifuges it to obtain your own platelet rich plasma. This part contains all your important growth factors needed for healing. This plasma is then reinjected into your skin over the areas where you want cell renewal.

A revolutionary treatment using your own cells to rejuvenate your skin or hair.

Sclerotherapy is a “non-surgical” method for the treatment of unwanted leg veins. Using a very fine needle, the physician injects a solution “sclerosing agent” into the veins that causes them to contract and eventually disappear. The injected veins become inflamed, blood is then unable to flow through them and ultimately, the body absorbs these non-functioning vessels.

The majority of persons who have Sclerotherapy will see good improvement. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that sclerotherapy will be effective in every case. Approximately 10% of patients who undergo sclerotherapy have poor to fair results.  (“Poor results” means that the veins have not totally disappeared after six treatments.)  In very rare instances, the patient’s condition may become worse after sclerotherapy treatment.  I also understand the sclerosing solution being used and its present FDA status.

The number of treatments needed to clear or improve the condition differs from patient to patient depending on the extents of varicose and spider veins present. Six (6) or more treatments may be needed. The average is three (3) to four (4) treatments. However, there is no guarantee that multiple treatments will clear all veins. While Sclerotherapy is a safe and highly effective, more than one treatment is usually required to clear or improve unsightly veins to a patient’s satisfaction. A small minority of patients do not improve even after six treatments. In rare instances the patient’s condition may worsen after treatment.
